Assertive Affirmation

Assertive Affirmation Training

I don’t want to be passive or aggressive or passive aggressive; I want to be assertive. I believe in myself and what I am doing. I believe I have good morals and beliefs. I believe I try to be the best person I can be. I watch for part of my personality which are more detrimental and I try to develop that part of myself.

The start of this project came from that desire to understand myself and others better. As with most research I do it becomes a piece of art. Thus the play is about narcissism displayed in peoples personalities especially people born to western privilege. How this sense of entitlement is a western concept that only exists within societies with huge economic disparities.

Those born into a low cast are never taught entitlement except in the context of being expected to provide whatever the master desires. Even in PC communities it is still expect that the womyn cook and clean while the men shot the shit and drink beer.

To me this problem of common respect and basic communication techniques is why we are lacking a cultural revolution. An analyzation of the common problem of alienation and cultural insensitive most often come down to an individualized sense of entitlement and other major signifiers of Destructive narcissistic personality.

I want give oppression workshops and intercultural communication workshops which teach people how to be assertive and not passive or aggressive or passive aggressive but to communicate with there whole self. :s)

Power

It is on the backs of the unnamed from which the privileged take their power; all the while telling the unknown that they should be thankful for the opportunities they are being given. The spoken names take and label it their own. Colonize ideas, which belong to another. This is the system on which our society has been built. This is erasure. This is why those who have their five minutes of fame are privileged white heterosexual males. (There is a certain advantage for the privileged to keeping the system working.) This privilege is proven by personality, more than skin hue, genitalia, sexuality or even the class you were born into. Privilege is the system on which our society functions. It is what keeps us separate. It is what keeps us under control. There has been no need to institute police states to keep the people under control because we are a self-policing in order to get closer to that piece of power pie they dangle in front of us. (More over, we do their dirty work for them. We oppress as much as we are oppressed.) We dangle a sliver of privilege in front of those who are beneath us so that they will propel us forward to the piece of privilege pie we see dangling in front of us. It is a self-propelling cycle. Those who have the pie no longer need to do anything anymore than sit back and reap the benefits of the system their ancestors created. Why do the proletarians continue to believe the myth that they can class jump? Why do we continue to propel the system? If we stop and work together, instead of against each other, we could all be happy and comfortable. In order for some to have a lot, there must be many who have none. But it is capitalism, I mean democracy, says the aristocrat; everyone has a chance to get their piece of pie they just have to work hard enough. All the while the ebb and flow of the world is really controlled by a few elite. The system at large reproduces itself into the smallest hierarchies. We fight against the system, we fight against the man but really we are only fighting against ourselves. Really we are only doing the man’s dirty work for him. Really, we are only doing exactly what the system tells us to.
